One of the greatest things He has bestowed upon us is the ability to feel. To feel emotion. Alongside that, He gave us the ability to recognise Him and to love Him. Every human being has been created with love for Allah deep within the heart. Hence when Allah states in the Quran that some people will be veiled from seeing Him in the akhirah, this too refers to the disbelievers, because although they did not believe, in their hearts there was love for Allah yet they did not notice it. And nothing pains the soul more than being kept away from the Beloved. So this too applies to the disbelievers. Everyone experiences love. Everyone has the right to express love. To be loved. Because we have been created with that need. It's something which every soul craves. And when the soul can not attain it through halal means, it often seeks the haram means. This love that we seek is a strong force that can either push you towards Allah or drag you away from Him. If it is good, pure love then it will bring you closer to Him. If not then it will grasp you with it's claws and take you towards its pit of despair. Seek love through halal means. Do not be fooled by compliments of flattery which have no sincerity. Do not let your heart be tempted by temporary springs of joy. Seek a spouse who pleases you through their deen. Who pleases you through their obedience to Allah. Form a marriage based on devotion to Allah and it will be successful. Relationships before marriage can cause heartache and destruction. Although you feel as though you can't live without this person, as though you are incomplete without them, do not be deceived for you are depending on a mortal being who too will depart from this world one day. Rather allow your dependencies and needs to rest upon Allah. Sacrifice that which displeases Him and He will give you that which pleases you. Once a young girl was walking through the street in the late evening and saw a mob in the distance, out of fear she fled to the near by mosque for her safety, where she found a young man who was reading books. He advised her to leave but she said she will stay quietly in one corner whilst he remains in the other. Every so often she would notice him placing his finger tip above the flame of the lantern. This intrigued her and when day came, she asked him why he did this. He was embarrassed but he explained that he is a young man and every so often some thoughts would creep in to his mind so he placed his finger above the flame to remind himself of Jahannam, so that he would not further pursue anything. The girl went home and told her father of this man. Her father was astonished by his taqwa and came to him to ask him to marry his daughter.
