Er stand vor der Tür und rief: „Sagt ihm Bescheid, dass Abu Ja'far vor der Tür steht.". Als Ibn Abi Dawud dies hörte, zuckte er kurz zusammen und sagte: „Lasst ihn rein!". Der Mann trat ein und Ibn Abi Dawud stand auf, grüßte ihn freundlich und bot seine Gastfreundschaft an. Dann drückte er ihm 5000 in die Hand und verabschiedete sich. Jemand sagte zu ihm: „So gehst du mit einem Durchschnittsbürger um???". Er antwortete: „Ich war früher sehr arm und er war in dieser Zeit mein Freund. Einmal ging ich zu ihm und sagte ihm, dass ich hungrig bin. Er bat mich Platz zu nehmen und verschwand. Dann kam er wieder mit Fleisch vom Grill, Brot und Süßigkeiten und sagte: ‚Greif zu.'. Ich sagte ihm: ‚Nur mit dir zusammen.'. Er weigerte sich erst, aber ich sagte ihm schließlich: ‚Wallahi, ich werde nicht eher anfangen zu essen bis du mit mir isst.'. Als wir dann so zusammen aßen, tropfte auf einmal Blut aus seinem Mund. Ich fragte ihn danach und er antwortete nur: ‚Eine Krankheit.'. Ich bestand darauf zu erfahren, was es genau ist, und er sagte: ‚Als du zu mir kamst, besaß ich praktisch nichts. Mein einziger Besitz von Wert war eine Zahnkrone aus Gold, und so entfernte ich sie und verkaufte sie.'. Sollte ich einen solchen Mann nicht gebührend entlohnen?"
