Als er 1921 von Sultân Vahiduddîn nach Anatolien geschickt wurde um am [Befreiungskrieg] teilzunehmen, wurde er jedoch durch die damalige Regierung in Ankara zurückgewiesen, da diese nicht wollte, dass er eine effektive Rolle im Krieg spielt. Er interessierte sich sehr für Fußball. Nach der Aufhebung des Sultanat's (1924) wurde er aus dem Land verbannt. Bis zu seiner Verbannung war er Vorsitzender des Fußballvereins Fenerbahçe Istanbul. Şehzâde Ömer Fârûk Efendî musste 45 Jahre seines Lebens im Exil verbringen und konnte nie wieder zurück in seine Heimat. Er starb am 28. März 1969 in Kairo.
