Padahal seharusnya ilmu dipelajari supaya meningkatkan amalan. Karena amalan itu adalah buah dari ilmu. Semoga kita terlindungi dari bahayanya belajar agama namun enggan mengamalkan ilmu tersebut. Semoga kita bisa mengambil ibrah dari kisah berikut. Dari Usamah bin Zaid, Nabi shallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam bersabda, يُجَاءُ بِالرَّجُلِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَيُلْقَى فِى النَّارِ ، فَتَنْدَلِقُ أَقْتَابُهُ فِى النَّارِ ، فَيَدُورُ كَمَا يَدُورُ الْحِمَارُ بِرَحَاهُ ، فَيَجْتَمِعُ أَهْلُ النَّارِ عَلَيْهِ ، فَيَقُولُونَ أَىْ فُلاَنُ ، مَا شَأْنُكَ أَلَيْسَ كُنْتَ تَأْمُرُنَا بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَتَنْهَى عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ قَالَ كُنْتُ آمُرُكُمْ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَلاَ آتِيهِ ، وَأَنْهَاكُمْ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ وَآتِيهِ "Ada seseorang yang didatangkan pada hari kiamat lantas ia dilemparkan dalam neraka. Usus-ususnya pun terburai di dalam neraka. Lalu dia berputar-putar seperti keledai memutari penggilingannya. Lantas penghuni neraka berkumpul di sekitarnya lalu mereka bertanya, "Wahai fulan, ada apa denganmu? Bukankah kamu dahulu yang memerintahkan kami kepada yang kebaikan dan yang melarang kami dari kemungkaran?" Dia menjawab, "Memang betul, aku dulu memerintahkan kalian kepada kebaikan tetapi aku sendiri tidak mengerjakannya. Dan aku dulu melarang kalian dari kemungkaran tapi aku sendiri yang mengerjakannya." (HR. Bukhari no. 3267 dan Muslim no. 2989) Lihatlah pula kata Ibnu Mas'ud radhiyallahu 'anhu, من تعلم علما لم يعمل به لم يزده إلا كبرا "Siapa yang belajar ilmu (agama) lantas ia tidak mengamalkannya, maka hanya kesombongan pada dirinya yang terus bertambah." (Disebutkan oleh Imam Adz Dzahabi dalam Al Kabair, hal. 75) Maka hati-hatilah dari salah niat. Dari Ibnu 'Umar, Nabi shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam bersabda, مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ عِلْمًا لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ أَوْ أَرَادَ بِهِ غَيْرَ اللَّهِ فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ "Siapa yang belajar agama karena selain Allah -atau ia menginginkan denagn ilmu tersebut selain Allah-, maka hendaklah ia menempati tempatnya di neraka." (HR. Tirmidzi no. 2655. Tirmidzi mengatakan bahwa hadits ini hasan ghorib, sedangkan Syaikh Al Albani mendhoifkan hadits ini). Belajar bukan untuk berdebat. Niat belajar yang benar adalah untuk memperbaiki diri sendiri terlebih dahulu. Dari Jabir bin 'Abdillah, ia berkata, لاَ تَعَلَّمُوا الْعِلْمَ لِتُبَاهُوا بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ وَلاَ لِتُمَارُوا بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ وَلاَ تَخَيَّرُوا بِهِ الْمَجَالِسَ فَمَنْ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ فَالنَّارُ النَّارُ "Janganlah belajar ilmu agama untuk berbangga diri di hadapan para ulama atau untuk mendebat orang-orang bodoh, dan jangan mengelilingi majelis untuk maksud seperti itu. Karena barangsiapa yang melakukan demikian, maka neraka lebih pantas baginya, neraka lebih pantas baginya." (HR. Ibnu Majah no. 254. Syaikh Al Albani mengatakan bahwa hadits ini shahih). This is due to the power and effect of correct intentions. Pure and good intentions can turn the smallest deed in to a mountain of reward. However having the wrong intentions when doing something, whether it be for worldly gain, or the praise of people, surely it ruins the reward. Praise can also affect the sincerity in one's actions. Thus one must flee from praise. A little bit of praise and one's ego will shoot sky high. But we must remember, we must always remember that whatever good we may do, we could not have done so without tawfeeq from Allah. If Allah doesn't grant us the ability to do something, then we will never be able to do it. Hence when praised by people, redirect that praise to Allah. For when we recite Surah Faatihah in Qiyaam, we say: "ALL praise is for the Lord of the worlds." We state ALL praise, not just some praise, but all of it, completely. And we should feel humbled when reciting these powerful words. We should remember that we are NOTHING and He is EVERYTHING. What did we come from? What were we created from? From Turaab. Dust. And we will slowly return to that. No matter how much power, wealth, status, fame, popularity etc we have today. One day we will be old, frail individuals and when we leave this world, we will leave all of it behind. Remember to praise Him for all the goodness that you receive, for you receive it from none other than HIM.
