Förderung der Gerechtigkeit als einer der Hauptgründe, weshalb die göttliche Botschaft und die Propheten in die Welt gesandt wurden: „Wir haben ja Unsere Gesandten mit den klaren Beweisen gesandt und mit ihnen die Schrift und die Waage herabkommen lassen, damit die Menschen für die Gerechtigkeit eintreten." (Quran 57:25) Das Eintreten für die Gerechtigkeit umfasst auch die soziale Gerechtigkeit, eine der Früchte der Gerechtigkeit ist die Herstellung der sozialen Gleichheit. Angesichts einer sich global immer weiter öffnenden Schere zwischen arm und reich sind die diesbezüglichen islamischen Auffassungen hochaktuell. Die Muslime sollten sich dafür einsetzen, dass der Staat einen sozialen Ausgleich herstellt bzw. für soziale Gerechtigkeit sorgt. Der Quran macht an mehreren Stellen unmissverständlich deutlich, dass die Armen ein Recht auf einen sozialen Ausgleich haben – nicht als ein Almosen oder eine freiwillige Spende, die jemand machen kann oder nicht. Der Staat erhebt auf das Vermögen der Reichen eine Steuer, die den Armen zukommen soll. Es handelt sich hier um eine klar definierte Pflicht bzw. ein Recht der Armen.: „...und (sie gestanden) an ihrem Besitz dem Bettler und dem Unbemittelten ein Anrecht (zu)."
