Entscheide nun zwischen ihnen nach dem, was Allah (dir) herabgesandt hat, und folge nicht (in Abweichung) von dem, was von der Wahrheit zu dir gekommen ist, ihren (persönlichen) Neigungen! - Für jeden von euch (die ihr verschiedenen Bekenntnissen angehört) haben wir ein (eigenes) Brauchtum (? schir`a) und einen (eigenen) Weg (minhaag) bestimmt. Und wenn Allah gewollt hätte, hätte er euch zu einer einzigen Gemeinschaft (umma) gemacht. Aber er (teilte euch in verschiedene Gemeinschaften auf und) wollte euch (so) in dem, was er euch (von der Offenbarung) gegeben hat, auf die Probe stellen. Wetteifert nun nach den guten Dingen! Zu Allah werdet ihr (dereinst) allesamt zurückkehren. Und dann wird er euch Kunde geben über das, worüber ihr (im Diesseits) uneins waret.

DIE LINKE.Kreis Offenbach hat sich nicht an den Protesten gegen den salafistischen "Prediger" Pierre Vogel beteiligt. In Frankfurt war ihm die Genehmigung verwehrt worden, dort hatte sich beim letzten Auftritt des Konvertiten Vogel der Frankfurter Rat der Religionen gegen solche Proteste ausgesprochen. Der Vorsitzende der LINKEN im Kreis Offenbach, Sven Malsy weist darauf hin, dass es dort unter anderem heißt: "Demonstrationen gegen islamische Fundamentalisten wie Pierre Vogel bergen die Gefahr der Pauschalisierung von Vogels Positionen auf den Islam allgemein". "Diesen Aufruf unterstützen wir", so Malsy weiter, "um keine Missverständnisse aufkommen zu lassen: Pierre Vogels Interpretation des Koran und des Islam trägt fundamentalistische, voraufklärerische, ja mittelalterliche Züge.
Seinkreationistisches Weltbild steht dem von christlichen fundamentalen Sekten wie der Piusbruderschaft in nichts nach. Seine Ausführungen zur Sexualmoral und zur Homosexualität sind alttestamentarisch, seine Interpretation des islamischen Rechts (Scharia) wird von der großen Mehrheit der islamischen Religionsgelehrten abgelehnt. Auch DIE LINKE lehnt das ab. Wir teilen jedoch nicht die Kritik, die leider in weiten Teilen der GegnerInnen vertreten wird, es handele sich um so genannte "Islamofaschisten", die es zu verbieten gelte. Solche Forderungen gäben diesen "Predigern" eher Auftrieb. Pierre Vogel und seine Anhänger werden mit der Bezeichnung "Islamofaschisten" nur beschimpft aber nicht analysiert.
Mit seiner Einteilung der Welt in "guten Islam" und schlechten, da ungläubigen Rest lässt er jede Kritik an Fehlentwicklungen des Islam in der Geschichte und heutigen Welt vermissen", so der Sprecher der LINKEN im Kreis Offenbach,"er brandmarkt den weißen Sklavenhandel mit Schwarzen aus Afrika, übergeht dabei aber die Tatsache, dass arabisch-muslimische Zwischenhändler an der Jagd auf Schwarzafrikaner beteiligt waren. Die letzte Kundgebung Vogels in Frankfurt war ebenfalls kein Aufmarsch von "Faschisten", sie war von der großen Mehrheit der Teilnehmer/innen vielmehr ein trotziger Aufschrei einer Schicht von Jugendlichen, die oft sozial entrechtet sind und sich zunehmend kulturell unterdrückt sehen. Die vorangegangene Verbotsdebatte hat es Vogel erleichtert, sich mit seinen fundamentalistischen Ideen zum Anwalt des Islam und gegen dessen zunehmende Diskriminierung zu machen.

gute Eigenschaften, wer sie besitzt, der wird die Süße des Glaubens
schmecken:
1) Der, der Allah und Seinen Gesandten über alles liebt;
2) der, der einen Anderen liebt, einfach um Allahs Willen; und
3) derjenige, der eine Rückkehr zum Unglauben, nachdem Allah ihn davor
gerettet hat, über alles hasst, und der es verabscheut, ins Höllenfeuer
geworfen zu werden."

Der Westen erhöht den Druck auf Syrien. Für Außenminister Guido Westerwelle hat Machthaber Baschar al-Assad den Einsatz von Giftgas befohlen. UNO-Chef Ban Ki Moon fordert eine scharfe Resolution.
m Syrien-Konflikt hält es nun auch Deutschland für wahrscheinlich, dass Präsident Baschar al-Assad für den Einsatz von Chemiewaffen bei Damaskus verantwortlich ist. Die Indizien sprächen dafür, "dass das Assad-Regime hinter diesem Tabubruch steht", sagte Bundesaußenminister Guido Westerwelle (FDP) der "Süddeutschen Zeitung". Die fünf Vetomächte im UN-Sicherheitsrat konnten sich unterdessen weiter nicht auf eine Resolution zu Syriens Chemiewaffenprogramm einigen.
US-Präsident Barack Obama zeigte sich jedoch überzeugt, dass der Bericht die Haltung der internationalen Öffentlichkeit verändert habe. "Wenn man die Details der vorgelegten Beweise betrachtet, dann ist es undenkbar, dass sie jemand anderes als das Regime benutzt hat", sagte er dem spanischsprachigen Sender Telemundo. Damit sei die US-Haltung bestätigt worden.
Um einen "Dammbruch" bei Chemiewaffen zu verhindern, müsse die internationale Gemeinschaft jetzt "alles daran setzen, dass sich so etwas nicht wiederholt", sagte Westerwelle. Er forderte deshalb den UN-Sicherheitsrat auf, den Internationalen Strafgerichtshof mit der strafrechtlichen Aufarbeitung der Giftgasangriffe beauftragen.

Le détachement du Prophète (Salla Allahou Alaihi wa Sallam) des biens terrestres
Le détachement du Prophète () des biens terrestres est sans pareil, car il s'agit du détachement de celui qui, s'il l'avait voulu, aurait pu posséder le poids des montagnes de la terre en or et en argent ; le détachement de celui qui, lorsque les biens de ce bas monde lui ont été proposés et présentés dans leur plus bel apparat, a dit : « Que m'importe ce bas monde ? Moi et ce bas monde, nous ressemblons à un cavalier qui, par une journée chaude, décide de faire la sieste à l'ombre d'un arbre pendant une heure avant de repartir » [Ahmed et al-Tirmidhi (al-Albani : Sahih)].
Son détachement () ne relevait pas de la contrainte matérielle mais d'un choix délibéré. Lorsque le Prophète () recevait les biens issus d'un butin ou d'un tribut, il les dépensait entièrement sans rien garder pour lui-même, leur préférant la récompense d'Allah, exalté soit-Il, et faisant preuve de détachement des biens terrestres.
Il a dit () : « Ô gens, il ne m'est licite du butin qu'Allah, exalté soit-Il, vous a accordé sans combat que le cinquième, et ce cinquième c'est vous qui en profiterez ( en d'autres termes : je le distribuerai entre vous) » [Abou Daoud et al-Nasa'i (al-Albani : Sahîh)].
Lorsque l'argent du Bahreïn arriva, le Prophète () dit : « Distribuez-le dans la mosquée ». Et le Prophète () ne quitta pas la mosquée avant que de cet argent ne restait plus un seul dirham. (Boukhari et Mouslim).
Le Prophète () était l'homme le plus détaché des biens terrestres et le plus attaché à l'au-delà. Son Seigneur lui a laissé le choix entre devenir un roi prophète ou rester un serviteur Messager, il opta pour le second choix [Ahmed et Ibn Hibbân (al-Albani : Sahîh)].
Ce détachement des biens terrestres était bien visible dans tous les domaines de sa vie : sa maison, son lit, ses vêtements, son boire et son manger.
Quant à sa maison, elle était construite en pierre crue ; sa superficie était exiguë et son plafond était bas.
Al-Hasan al-Basri, qu'Allah lui fasse miséricorde, témoigna : « J'entrai dans les appartements des épouses du Prophète () au temps de `Uthmân ibn `Affân, qu'Allah soit satisfait de lui, et leur plafond était à portée de ma main » (Siyar a`lam al-nubala').
Se trouvant entre la tombe du Prophète () et son minbar, `Ata' al-Khurasâni, qu'Allah lui fasse miséricorde, décrivit : « J'ai vu les appartements des épouses du Prophète () ; ils étaient construits avec des feuilles de palme, et les portes étaient couvertes de bures noires » (Ibn Sa`d, al-Tabaqat al-Kubra ; Hayat al-Sahaba).
Sa couche () : il se couchait directement sur un tapis en nattes tressées, qui laissait des traces sur son noble corps, au point que, par émoi, `Umar, qu'Allah soit satisfait de lui, versa des larmes en le voyant.
Anas ibn Malik, qu'Allah soit satisfait de lui, rapporta ce qui suit : « J'entrai chez le Prophète () et je le vis allongé sur une natte faite de palmes et de fibres tressées. Peu après, `Umar et d'autres Compagnons entrèrent. Le Prophète () se tourna. `Umar s'aperçut alors des traces de la natte sur son flan. Il se mit à pleurer, et le Prophète () lui dit :
- 'Ô `Umar, pourquoi pleures-tu ?'.
- 'Par Allah, lui répondit-il, je sais que tu es plus noble auprès d'Allah, exalté soit-Il, que César et Chosroes qui, à l'heure où je te parle, se vautrent dans le luxe de ce bas monde, alors que tu vis dans un état aussi modeste'.
- 'Ne te contenterais-tu pas du fait que César et Chosroes aient ce bas monde et nous, l'au-delà ? » lui demanda le Prophète ().
- 'Si', répondit `Umar.
- 'Il en est ainsi', poursuivit le Prophète () (Ahmed et Ibn Hibbân).
Anas Ibn Malik, qu'Allah soit satisfait de lui, dit : « A ma connaissance, le Prophète () n'a jamais utilisé d'écuelle, ni mangé du pain frais, ni pris ses repas sur une table » (Boukhari).
Quant à ses vêtements () il portait d'habitude un Izâr et un Rida'. Abu Bordah, qu'Allah soit satisfait de lui, a dit : « Aïcha, qu'Allah soit satisfait d'elle, nous montra un Rida' rapiécé et un Izâr en tissu épais, et nous dit : 'Le Prophète () a rendu l'âme à Allah alors qu'il portait ces deux vêtements' » (Boukhari, Mouslim et al-Tirmidhi).
Quant à son boire et son manger, il () était tellement détaché des biens terrestres et tellement pauvre qu'il arrivait qu'il ne fasse cuire aucun repas pendant deux mois complets. D'après `Urwa, qu'Allah soit satisfait de lui, Aïcha, qu'Allah soit satisfait d'elle, dit : « Par Allah, mon neveu, parfois deux mois et trois nouvelles lunes s'écoulaient sans que nous ne fassions cuire quoi que ce soit dans la maison du Messager d'Allah ». `Urwa lui demanda : « Mais de quoi viviez-vous alors ? ». Elle répondit : «Al-Aswadân (les dattes et l'eau) » (Boukhari et Mouslim).
Ibn `Abbâs, qu'Allah soit satisfait de lui, dit : « Le Prophète () passait plusieurs nuits successives le ventre vide ; les membres de sa famille ne trouvaient pas de quoi dîner et le pain qu'ils consommaient le plus souvent était du pain d'orge » [al-Tirmidhi (al-Albani : Hasan)].
Parfois, le Prophète () avait tellement faim qu'il s'attachait une pierre au ventre [Ibn al-A`rabi (al-Albani : Hasan)].
Décrivant dans son sermon la situation du Prophète () al-Nu'mân ibn Bachîr, qu'Allah soit satisfait de lui, indiqua que `Umar, qu'Allah soit satisfait de lui, évoqua un jour l'opulence dans laquelle vivaient les gens sous son califat et dit : « J'ai vu votre Prophète () ne pas trouver suffisamment de dattes de mauvaise qualité pour en manger à sa faim » (Mouslim).
Quelle situation étonnante ! La maison de la meilleure de toutes les créatures ne contenait même pas des dattes de mauvaise qualité, au point que le Prophète () n'eut pas de quoi donner l'hospitalité à un homme qui avait faim, et qu'il fut () obligé de demander à ses Compagnons de le faire à sa place !
Abu Hurayra, qu'Allah soit satisfait de lui, rapporta qu'un homme vint dire au Prophète () : « Je suis exténué de faim». Le Prophète () envoya quelqu'un à ses épouses pour demander si l'une d'elle a de la nourriture dans sa maison. Mais, chacune d'elles répondit : « Par Celui Qui t'a envoyé par la Vérité, je n'ai que de l'eau ». Le Prophète () fut donc obligé de demander à ses Compagnons : « Qui peut lui donner l'hospitalité pour cette nuit et en échange Allah lui accordera Sa miséricorde ? ». Un homme des Ansars se leva et dit : « Moi, Ô Messager d'Allah » (Boukhari et Mouslim).
Imaginez cela ! Dans tous les appartements du Prophète () il n'y avait que de l'eau ! Quel détachement des biens terrestres !
Lorsque le Prophète () n'avait pas de provisions chez lui, il sortait dans l'espoir de trouver de quoi calmer sa faim.
Abu Hurayra, qu'Allah soit satisfait de lui, rapporta ce qui suit : « Le Prophète () sortit un jour, ou un soir. Il rencontra Abu Bakr et `Umar et leur dit :
- 'Qu'est-ce qui vous a fait sortir de chez vous à pareille heure ?'.
- 'La faim, ô Messager d'Allah', répondirent-ils.
- 'Par Celui qui tient mon âme dans Sa Main ! C'est la même raison qui n'a fait moi aussi fait sortir de chez moi!' » (Mouslim).
Les épargnes du Prophète () : il ne laissa, à sa mort, ni dirham, ni dinar, ni esclave, homme ou femme. Il ne laissa rien d'autre que sa mule blanche, son arme et une parcelle de terre qu'il donna en aumône (Boukhari).
Par ailleurs, le Prophète () avait donné son bouclier en gage à un Juif en échange de trente Sa` d'orge. A sa mort, () le bouclier était toujours en gage.
Allah, exalté soit-Il, dit en toute vérité (sens du verset) : « Et tu es certes, d'une moralité éminente » (Coran 68/4).

Zu den Sitten und Manieren der Salaf gehörte, dass sie das Diesseits für unbedeutend hielten, da der Gesandte Allahs (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) sagte:
"Das Diesseits ist im Vergleich zum Jenseits so, als ob einer von euch seinen Finger in den Ozean taucht und dann schaut, was er davon genommen hat." (Sahih Muslim)
Er (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) sagte auch:
"Wenn das Diesseits bei Allah so viel gelten würde, wie der Flügel einer Mücke, so hätte Er einem Ungläubigen nicht erlaubt, auch nur einen Schluck davon zu genießen." (at-Tirmidhi)
Malik ibn Dinar (rahimahullah) sagte: Hütet euch vor dem Zauberer, der die Herzen der Gelehrten verzaubert, und sie von Allah, dem Erhabenen, ablenkt (d.h. der Welt). Ihre Natur ist hässlicher als der Zauber von Harut und Marut, denn deren Zauber trennte einen Mann von seiner Frau, wohingegen die Welt einen Diener von seinem Herrn trennt."
Hasan al-Basri (rahimahullah) pflegte zu sagen: „Wir haben gewisse Personen getroffen, für die diese Welt wie etwas Anvertrautes war, das sie dem Eigentümer wieder zurückgeben mussten. Sie sahen, dass sie nichts darin besaßen, so reisten sie leicht ins Jenseits."
Abdullah ibn Mubarak (rahimahullah) sagte: „Die Welt ist das Gefängnis des Gläubigen. Die beste Tat im Gefängnis ist die Geduld und das Bezwingen des Zornes. Der Gläubige hat kein Land in der Welt. Sein Land wird morgen dort im Jenseits sein."
Einer der Salaf pflegte zu sagen: „Wenn du Allah nahe sein willst, dann stelle eine eiserne Wand zwischen dich und deine Begierden."

El Islam y la poligamia I
La poligamia está definida en muchos diccionarios como: "Cualquier persona (hombre o mujer) que incondicionalmente se casa con un número ilimitado de cónyuges al mismo tiempo".
Esto significa que el hombre o la mujer pueden casarse con un número ilimitado de cónyuges al mismo tiempo. En otras culturas y profesiones religiosas, el hombre puede casarse con un número ilimitado de esposas al mismo tiempo, por cualquier razón, sin ser restringido por ninguna condición. Tales prácticas están totalmente prohibidas en el Islam.
En el Islam, el hombre musulmán tiene el derecho de casarse con más de una esposa, pero este derecho está acompañado de condiciones muy serias. Estas condiciones son: la estabilidad económica, física y emocional; el trato igualitario a las esposas; que las mujeres no sean de aquellas que le han sido prohibidas al hombre de manera permanente (como sus tías, hijas adoptivas y otras que han sido especificadas en el Corán) o temporal (como casarse con dos hermanas al mismo tiempo); y que el número de esposas esté limitado a cuatro.
Por lo tanto, esta es una cláusula legal que puede ser entendida de manera apropiada en el contexto de la posición del Islam sobre este asunto:
Primero: en el Islam, la familia es considerada la piedra angular de la sociedad; cualquier relación extramarital es devastadora y dañina para la familia, y por lo tanto está estrictamente prohibida. La vida matrimonial es muy deseable en el Islam; el Islam considera el rol de la mujer como una respetable y honorable esposa, no como una amante secreta; mientras al hombre se le asigna el rol de un respetado y responsable esposo, que no se involucra en aventuras.
Segundo: el Islam y las leyes islámicas han sido establecidos para todas las épocas y para todas las circunstancias y situaciones; es por eso que se acomodan a todas las posibles situaciones, tanto individuales como sociales.
Tercero: en el Islam, cada hombre musulmán debe tener una esposa, y cada mujer musulmana debe tener un esposo.
A pesar de que esto pudo haber sido abusado en ciertas épocas y lugares, la poligamia puede tener una función muy valiosa en ciertas circunstancias; en algunas situaciones puede ser considerada como la menor entre dos situaciones difíciles, y en otras puede ser incluso un acuerdo beneficioso.
El ejemplo obvio de este caso se ve en tiempos de guerra, cuando inevitablemente queda un gran número de viudas y huérfanos en la soledad, sin amor, sustento, cuidado ni protección.
Si bajo estas circunstancias se mantiene la ley de que un hombre sólo pueda casarse con una esposa, las otras mujeres serían privadas de tener una familia la cual incluye un esposo amoroso, un compañero de por vida, hijos y un padre para sus hijos. ¿Qué opción les queda a estas mujeres que no tienen la oportunidad de contraer matrimonioí Ellas tendrán que mantenerse solas o ser parte de una relación ilícita.
Muchas mujeres no estarían conformes con ninguna de estas dos opciones. Una amante es sólo una segunda esposa no oficial, que no tiene derechos legales ni seguridad, ni para sí misma ni para sus hijos. El hecho es que esas mujeres bajo esas circunstancias preferirían compartir un esposo a no tener ninguno; no hay duda que es fácil compartir un esposo cuando esta es un una práctica establecida y legal, que cuando es llevada secretamente con la intención de engañar a la primera esposa.
Existen otras situaciones cuando esta clase de práctica es preferible para todas las partes, como cuando la primera esposa padece de una enfermedad crónica, si no puede tener hijos o si una mujer no puede ganarse el sustento y necesita de apoyo emocional y financiero.
Estos ejemplos son mencionados aquí porque la gente asume que la poligamia en el Islam tiene el objetivo de satisfacer los caprichos de los hombres musulmanes, y no la ven como una solución real para ciertos problemas sociales.
La primera aleya del Corán que permitió esta práctica, fue revelada inmediatamente después de la batalla de Uhud, en la cual cientos de hombre musulmanes habían muerto, dejando viudas y huérfanos cuya protección era la responsabilidad de los hombres musulmanes sobrevivientes.
Al-lah, Alabado Sea, Dice (lo que se interpreta en español): {Dad a los huérfanos sus bienes [al llegar a la pubertad]; no os quedéis con aquello sobre lo cual no tenéis derecho, y no os apropiéis de sus bienes agregándolos a los vuestros; porque es un gran pecado. Si teméis no ser equitativos con [las dotes de] las huérfanas, entonces casaos con otras mujeres que os gusten: dos, tres o cuatro. Pero si teméis no ser justos, casaos con una sola o recurrid a vuestras esclavas. Esto [casarse con una sola mujer] es lo recomendable para evitar cometer alguna injusticia} [Corán 4:2-3].
En estas aleyas, se evidencian varios factores:
Esta permisión no está únicamente asociada con la mera satisfacción o pasión; en cambio, está asociada con la compasión hacia las viudas y los huérfanos, un tema que es confirmado por las condiciones en las cuales estos versos fueron revelados.
Tratar justamente a la esposa es una obligación en el Islam. Esto se refiere a la vivienda, comida, trato bondadoso, etc.; por tanto, significa que el esposo tiene la misma obligación hacia todas sus esposas y todos sus hijos sin ninguna discriminación.
Si uno no está seguro de poder ser justo con ellas, entonces el Corán hace la clara advertencia al hombre musulmán de que se case sólo con una esposa.
La poligamia es mucho mejor y más honorable que el hecho de que un hombre tenga amantes secretas o se involucre con prostitutas (adulterio). Esta práctica también es mucho mejor que los casos donde el esposo se divorcia de su esposa si esta se enferma y se casa con otra.
El requisito de la justicia entre las esposas, anula la fantasía de que un hombre puede tener tantas esposas como le plazca; esto también anula el concepto de una esposa "secundaria", porque todas las esposas tienen exactamente el mismo estatus y tienen los mismos derechos y exigencias sobre su esposo.
Las aleyas dicen "casaos" – no comprad, seducid o seleccionad – ya que en el Islam el matrimonio es un contrato civil, el cual es válido únicamente cuando ambas partes lo consienten. Así, ninguna mujer puede casarse por la fuerza o ser entregada a un hombre que ya está casado, excepto si ella y su familia están de acuerdo; ya que no existe el matrimonio secreto en el Islam, la poligamia es practicada como una decisión libre de ambas partes.
Es evidente que la permisión para la poligamia es consistente con la visión realista que el Islam tiene del mundo, que permanece aplicable a las variadas necesidades sociales, problemas y variaciones culturales, para todos los tiempos y en todos los lugares.

Showing respect for customs and traditions
Man is born without any experience and then is influenced by the customs and traditions from those around him. In this way, customs and traditions are conveyed from one generation to the next.
Customs and traditions appear in the actions and works practiced by individuals that is oft-repeated and represents a daily or cyclic program for their life.
Customs are actions that are a norm for people to do and are repeated on many different occasions. Traditions involve a new generation copying the methods of the previous generation and imitating it in different affairs.
Emergence and Development of Customs and Traditions:
It is difficult to determine the emergence, development and expansion of customs and traditions because they are parts of the social activity of individuals in any random sector of society. They do not appear all of a sudden. On the contrary, it takes years until they become well-established and even many more years until they change or evolve.
Customs and traditions often emerge to serve a social function benefiting all or some individuals in the society. It becomes a social pattern that helps strengthen social relations among the individuals of a community. This leads to a collective agreement upon certain behaviors to be practiced in the community.
Customs and traditions act as a chain whose links are conveyed from one generation to the next. This conveyance may be accompanied by some changes through omissions or additions, being positive or negative, in accordance with the conditions and values of every generation. Moreover, the social function of the customs or traditions may fade or even expire as a result of the change of social conditions. But they survive due to psychological pressure on the individuals who repeat them and feel that they grant them safety and reassurance and guarantee their consistency against any new changes.
Women have an important and effective role in spreading customs and traditions and conveying them from one generation to the next. This stems from the theory of their great role in disciplining and maintaining (the family). For this reason, she bears the greatest responsibility for adjusting them in accordance with the right Islamic method. In confirmation of that Allah The Almighty Says (what means):
• {And, [moreover], this is My path, which is straight, so follow it; and do not follow [other] ways, for you will be separated from His way. This has He instructed you that you may become righteous.} [Quran 6:153]
• {It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error.} [Quran 33:36]
The Relationship of the Islamic method with Customs and Traditions:
With the spread of Islam to many countries that each have their own different customs and traditions, the Islamic method takes three forms in relation with them:
The first is to support the customs that encourage virtuous principles and high values and enhancing them according to the eternal Shari'ah principles. Among these are the neighbor's right, generously hosting the guest, helping the poor, relieving the needy and assisting the stranger.
The second is to straighten the customs which have two aspects: one good and the other bad, by placing emphasis on the good, forbidding the bad and reforming it according to the Noble Shari'ah.
The third is to resist the straying and misleading customs and traditions, which oppose its values and principles, and may lead to gaps in society, disorder of values, the spread of corruption and vice and the loss of security and tranquility. An example of this is the practice of girls being buried alive. The Arabs (during the pre-Islamic days) regarded having a girl as a source of pessimism and an object of contempt. Then the Quran disapproved of this hideous custom and protected the girl from this criminal act. He The Almighty Says (what means): {And when one of them is informed of [the birth of] a female, his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief. He hides himself from the people because of the ill of which he has been informed. Should he keep it in humiliation or bury it in the ground? Unquestionably, evil is what they decide.} [Quran 16:58-59]
And, the Messenger of Allah, sallAllahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said: "He, who has a female (daughter) and he does not bury her alive, disgrace her nor give preference to his male child over her, Allah will Admit him into Paradise." [Abu Daawood]
Before Islam, the young girl would also suffer from being coerced into marriage regardless of her will and consent. Thereupon, Islam glorified her in this respect when the Messenger of Allah, sallAllahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said: "No previously married woman should be given in marriage without her consent and no virgin should be given in marriage without her permission." [Muslim] Before Islam, the young girl also suffered being deprived of any inheritance. But Islam assigned to her a right in the inheritance of her father. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {For men is a share of what the parents and close relatives leave, and for women is a share of what the parents and close relatives leave, be it little or much - an obligatory share.} [Quran 4:7]
Bad Customs:
These days, many bad customs have become widespread among the general population and it is even more widely spread among women. Among these customs is the intention of seeking to draw closer to Allah The Almighty using the dead and Awliyaa' (Pious people who are close to Allah The Almighty) as a medium. Wailing and screaming upon the death (of a loved one). Similar bad customs include visiting psychics and fortune tellers and following their errors, attachment to amulets, talismans and charms assuming they bring good and avert evil. Also, Mushaaharah or Kabsah, which is the belief that if a man with a shaved head carrying meat, red dates, eggplants or similar items enters upon a confined woman, he would cause the milk to cease to flow (from her breast) or delay her pregnancy. And, these are examples of bad customs that do not please Allah The Almighty and His Messenger, sallAllahu 'alayhi wa sallam, like putting on toupees, visiting coiffeurs, lengthening finger and toe nails, using dyes and colors to adorn them, lagging behind the latest fashions of clothing (gothic and other styles that stick out from the norm), and so on.
The Duty of the Muslim:
To avoid the potential harms of these matters and prevent corruption due to them, it is the duty of the Muslim to abandon every custom and tradition that violates even a single principle of the religious fundamental principles. He must pause to reflect upon all customs and traditions and weigh them using the balance of the genuine Islamic method and adjust whatever does not agree with it or comply with its rules. If there is a custom or tradition that violates one's creed and opposes one's religion, he should throw it far away without hesitation, bashfulness or regret. He should flee from bad customs and evil traditions and rush toward the secure shadows of Islam entertaining no fear of critics for the Sake of Allah. His pattern should follow that of the righteous believers in the ages of Islam who responded to the call of truth and sacrificed what was valuable to them in support of it.
Fabricating History:
Some historians fabricated this eternal image of the great men and leaders of this Ummah. They presented the Muslim caliphs in a light of men whose main concern was only food and drink, to the extent that it is attributed to Mu'aawiyah ibn Abi Sufyaan, the Companion of the Messenger of Allah, sallAllahu 'alayhi wa sallam, that he would eat very compulsively. This is something unimaginable even from cattle, let alone from a revered Companion who learnt in the school of the Messenger of Allah, sallAllahu 'alayhi wa sallam, that a man should not eat and drink in excess. They also represent to us such a caliph as Haaroon Ar-Rasheed, as a man who loved women and drank alcoholic drinks, and so on. All this is attributed to a man who, in his age, witnessed many conquests, was himself a Mujaahid (one who strives with his wealth and life in the Path of Allah, The Almighty), a devout worshipper of Allah, pious and righteous.
It is obvious from the biographies of such personalities that what has been said about them are no more than invented lies whose initiatory purpose is to distort the image of Islam through the character assassination of its caliphs. As a result, they attempt to claim that their customs and traditions appear to be in opposition to the innate human common sense so that the Ummah would criticize its symbols and celebratory figures. Afterwards, they would have nothing worthy of mentioning for themselves in the history of mankind. Resentful criminal historians distorted not only the image of men, but the believing women as well. During the pre-Islamic days, they would let their head covers hang down from behind their heads, uncovering their breasts, necks and collars.
With the emergence of Islam and its spreading light, Allah The Almighty Says, addressing the women by way of disciplining (what means): {and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests.} [Quran 24:31]. Upon which, the men turned to their wives to recite to them what had been revealed by Allah The Almighty in order to guide them and there was no woman but that she caught hold of her sheet (of wool) and covered her head (and face) with trust and belief in the clear Verses revealed by Allah The Almighty. In the morning, they performed the morning prayer behind the Messenger of Allah, sallAllahu 'alayhi wa sallam, with their heads covered and motionless, as if there were crows perched on their heads. [Abu Daawood and Ibn Abi Haatim]. But the people represented their behavior as retardation and not in harmony with the advanced time. Rather, they had their women come out half-dressed as if they were nude, in order that the dissolute wolves (amongst men) would quench their craving by the unlawful glance, and whatever consequent traces of her body he may recall.
Inherited customs and traditions are among the affairs that are the most detrimental upon the religion of Allah The Almighty because they are habitual, the soul inclines to them, the people agree with them and it is difficult to abandon them. From this point of view, it is incumbent upon the Muslim to discard anything that opposes the Islamic Sharee'ah and play an effective role in changing and virtuously protecting his community in order that its customs and traditions would be compatible with the Sharee'ah of Allah The Almighty. Men and women are equal in this respect, perchance the children would rise as a strong generation, carrying the torch of Islam, and enlightening the way for all people.
