    Israeli forces kill two in Syria's Golan Heights

    Israeli troops have shot dead two men on the Syrian side of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights in yet another act of provocation against Syria.

    The Israeli military confirmed the report in a Friday statement on Twitter, claiming that the two men were apparently trying to cross the separating fence and "infiltrate" into the Israeli-occupied part of the Golan Heights.

    "The Israeli army opened fire, hits were confirmed," added the military statement.

    Over the past months, such instances of violence have been on the rise in the Israeli-occupied Syrian territory.

    Last Wednesday, four Israeli troops were wounded in a bomb attack in the Golan Heights. Following the incident, the Israeli military pounded an army post near Syria's southeastern town of Quneitra, killing and injuring nearly 10 people.

    Also on March 5, at least seven Syrian security forces and several civilians were wounded in a number of attacks carried out by Israeli forces from the occupied Golan Heights.

    Tel Aviv claimed its forces were trying to hit suspected militants attempting to plant an explosive device near the Syrian border.

    The Israeli regime captured the Golan Heights during the Six-Day War of 1967, when it also took control of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

    It annexed the Golan Heights in 1981, although the move was never recognized by the international community and was a violation of international law.

    The UN Security Council has rejected the de facto annexation in Resolution 497. The UN also regards the Golan Heights as an occupied territory.

    Obama fails to raise human rights abuses with Saudis

    President Barack Obama's two-hour meeting with Saudi king Abdullah touched on US policies on Iran and Syria but not about the Saudis' atrocious human rights record and abuse of women. Obama was also subjected to subtle form of racism, something widespread in the primitive desert kingdom.

    In meeting with King Abdullah today, US President Barack Obama spent most of his time explaining US policy on Syria and Iran that the Saudis say is not tough enough instead of raising the Saudis' atrocious human rights record.

    Before heading to Saudi Arabia, a number of human rights organizations among them Amnesty International had urged Obama to raise the Saudis' abuse of women and other human rights abuses.

    Amnesty suggested Obama take a female driver with him to make the point that women cannot be deprived of the right to drive cars as the Saudis have done.

    "It is crucial that President Obama sends a strong message to the government of Saudi Arabia that its gross human rights violations and systematic discrimination are unacceptable. A failure to do so would undermine the human rights principles the USA purports to stand for," said Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, Amnesty's deputy director for the Middle East and North Africa.

    There are more than 30,000 political prisoners in the desert kingdom, many of them held without trial or charge. A recent decree has made calls for reform or exposing corruption in the kingdom akin to terrorism and punishable by years of imprisonment.

    There was also a personal appeal from one of Abdullah's former wives who currently lives in London. Four of her daughters have been held without their will and locked up in a palace in Jeddah.

    "Since 13 years, my daughters Sahar, Maha, Hala and Jawaher are being held captive," Abdullah's ex-wife Alanoud al-Fayez, 57, was quoted as saying. "They need to be saved and released immediately," she added. We need to keep in mind Abdullah is 90 and has a 10-year-old daughter.

    "Mr. Obama should take this opportunity to address these grave violations committed against my daughters," al-Fayez said. The daughters have complained that they are virtually being starved and provided only one meal a day. Unfortunately Obama was unable to muster the courage to raise these crucial issues.

    A US official said human rights were not discussed. "Today, given the extent of time they spent on Iran and Syria, they didn't get to a number of issues, and it wasn't just human rights," he said after the meeting.

    The meeting lacked the warmth that Abdullah had displayed toward Obama during his first visit in 2009. During the earlier visit, Abdullah had conferred the highest civilian award on Obama.

    Abdullah is in poor health—he is 90 and often incoherent—and there is deep concern over the question of succession although the king appointed Prince Muqrin as deputy crown prince yesterday signaling that in the event of his death or that of the crown prince Salman who is 78, the next in line is already determined.

    For decades the US has treated Saudi Arabia as a cash cow. For selling them military hardware that the Saudis have only used against their own people or for crushing people's aspirations in Bahrain, Saudi oil money has largely been deposited in US banks.

    Relations, however, have soured because the US no longer sees Saudi Arabia as vital to its interests. Washington's dependence on Saudi oil has also declined with more imports coming from Canada and Mexico and extracting oil and gas through fracking.

    Tension between the two was evident during the meeting from the body language of the Saudi king. There is also a lot of racism in the desert kingdom. Even dark-skinned Saudis are discriminated against and not given any important posts. Obama was subjected to subtle forms of discrimination during his latest brief visit.

    EU report warns of Israeli bids against Aqsa Mosque

    European diplomats in Israel have warned against attempts by the Tel Aviv regime to change the status quo at the al-Aqsa Mosque, insisting that such a move would trigger a widespread regional violence.

    The warning came in a Friday report by representatives of the European Union states in Ramallah and al-Quds (Jerusalem), further emphasizing that the holy Mosque is being exposed to real threats by the Israeli regime, which threatens to turn into the explosion of the Islamic and Arab worlds against the occupying entity.

    The EU report further pointed to an unprecedented increase in Israeli settlement expansion efforts in the occupied al-Quds since it resumed last July amid the US-sponsored negotiations between the Palestinian Authority and the Tel Aviv regime.

    The report also held the Israeli occupiers accountable for the deterioration of living and social conditions of Jerusalem's Palestinian natives, who constitute 39 percent of the total population in the city.

    In a related development, the ISESCO's archeology expert commission also called for essential efforts to raise the awareness of the Islamic and international public opinion on the dangers of Israel's illegal practices in the occupied al-Quds as well as its potential impacts on international and regional affairs.

    In a statement broadcast on Friday by its information department, ISESCO called for organizing an international conference on Jerusalem this year to discuss the Israeli violations in the holy city and come up with strategies to contain such abuses.

    ISESCO further condemned the Israeli attempts to revoke Jordan's sovereignty over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and its support for near daily break-ins by Zionist settlers and police raids.

    The organization also described Israel's measures against the al-Aqsa Mosque and its Muslim visitors as a flagrant violation of the international law.

    For its part, the United Nations has also expressed its deep concerns over the growing demolition of Palestinian homes in occupied al-Quds by the Israeli regime

    Syria army purges militants in Lattakia, Aleppo, Homs

    Syrian army forces have conducted more operations against staging areas and hideout of intruding insurgent group around Lattakia, Aleppo, Homs and Daraa, killing and injuring many foreign-backed militants and destroying or seizing their weaponry.

    In the Saturday operations government troops destroyed an insurgent staging center in northern Lattakia suburbs of al-Jabal al-Kabir, eliminating the entire group of armed militants and destroying their vehicles and weaponry in the process, SANA reported, citing a military source.

    In another operation, army units further killed and injured numerous militants in the areas of al-Dar al-Kabira, Talbiseh, al-Rastan, Um Sharshouh, al-Thawra, al-Houleh and Beit Qasswat in the countryside of Homs.

    According to the report, a number of insurgent vehicles carrying arms and ammunition were also destroyed in the operation.

    In Aleppo meanwhile, attempts by two militant groups to infiltrate into safe areas in al-Hamidieyh and al-Sayyed were thwarted by vigilant Syrian army units stationed in the area. All members of the two insurgent gangs were either killed or injured.

    Other army units around Aleppo also attacked and razed staging areas of armed militants in the vicinity of the Central Prison and the Industrial City as well as a number of other surrounding areas, including Rasm al-Abboud, Hreitan, Kafr Hamra, al-Atareb, Babis, al-Wdeihi and Kafrnaha, inflicting heavy losses on the insurgents and their military hardware.

    Also in areas surrounding Daraa city, an army unit foiled yet another attempt by foreign-backed militants to infiltrate into al-Manshiyeh neighborhood, eliminating most of the armed insurgents.
