We feel a sense of emptiness, we feel slightly lost and unable to get back on track. This is sometimes the consequence of letting go of اعمال. Our good deeds help us stay firm in terms of deen. Without actions, our hearts lose themselves in the process of worldly gain. We're so busy chasing this world. When we are young, we wish to grow up. When we grow up, we want a decent job. When we have a decent job, we want a fancy car. When we have a fancy car, we want an amazing spouse to accompany us on our journeys. When we have an amazing spouse, we want a big house. When we have a big house, we want nice furniture. When we have nice furniture, we want beautiful children. When we have beautiful children, we want the best education for them. And then the best job. And then the best spouse. And the wants go on and on and on. We could be here all day. But you get the point. We are so focused on this world, that we tend to let go of عمل. And then we find ourselves questioning why our hearts feel so empty, so very distant from Allah. It doesn't take much to get back on track. Just a few good deeds here and there, can help you find your feet again. But the key is consistency. In order for your spirituality to grow, you must be consistent. A plant can not grow unless you are consistent in watering it. Likewise your spirituality can't grow if you aren't consistent upon carrying out good deeds. It could be any good deed. It's just a matter of starting somewhere. It could be waking up for tahajjud, reciting Quran after Fajr, staying up until ishraaq, reciting durood, engaging in dhikr, attending weekly talks, prolonging sujood, extending dua or even just making a habit of reading various surahs everyday. There's so much more you can do, the list can go on. But the fact is that by making a habit of doing such and such an act, it becomes a norm, and without it your soul feels void of peace. So work on your spirituality in order to attain a heart filled with qanaa'at, contentment.
