Daniel Streich, militärischer Ausbilder und bis vor kurzem SVP-Politiker in der Stadt Bulle, hat die Partei verlassen, und zwar die politische Partei, die die Minarett-Verbots-Initiative vorantrieb. Der Grund: Er konvertierte zum Islâm. Zwei Jahre lang hielt er dieses Geheimnis vor seiner ehemaligen Partei geheim. Jetzt, mit der „Treibjagd gegen den Islâm", wurde die Situation untragbar für ihn. Er war ein wahrer „SVP-ler" und Christ. Er las die Bibel und ging regelmäßig in die Kirche. Jetzt liest Daniel Streich – militärischer Ausbilder und Kommunalratsmitglied - den Qurân, betet fünfmal am Tag und geht in die Moschee. „Der Islâm bietet mir logische Antworten auf wichtige Lebensfragen, die ich letztlich im Christentum nie fand", sagt Streich. Weil er die „Treibjagd der SVP gegen den Islâm" nicht mehr ertragen konnte, verließ Streich die Partei vor zwei Wochen (um den 10. November 2009) und gab seine Konversion zum Islâm zwei Jahre nach seiner Konversion öffentlich bekannt. Jetzt beteiligt er sich am Aufbau der neuen konservativen demokratischen Partei im Kanton Freiburg. Der ehemalige Kirchengänger ist vehement gegen die Minarett-Initiative: „Wenn die Initiative Erfolg hat, dann wird dies ein absoluter Tiefschlag für mich sein. Ich würde mich fragen müssen, warum ich mich über 30 Jahre lang beruflich und politisch für dieses politische System eingesetzt habe." Im Gegenteil – die Schweiz benötigt dringend mehr Moscheen. „Es ist der Schweiz nicht würdig, Muslime dazu zu zwingen, ihren Glauben in Hinterhöfen zu praktizieren." Die Reaktionen in der SVP waren gemischt. „Jeder kann an das glauben, was er will!", sagt Generalsekretär Martin Baltisser. SVP-Nationalratsmitglied Alfred Heer reagierte weniger freundlich. Politikwissenschaftler Georg Lutz sagte: „Die SVP und der Islâm stehen enger zueinander, als die Menschen denken. Beide fördern eine konservative Weltanschauung."
