Sie gehört zu den fünf Säulen des Islam und zu den Zweigen der Religion [furu'ad-din]. Die Zeit der Pilgerfahrt ist der letzte Monat namens Dhul-Hidscha im Islamischen Kalender (vgl. Heiliger Qur'an 2:197). Die Pilgerfahrt ist religionsrechtlich eine Zusammenstellung einer Reihe spezifischer einzelner Riten. Die Hadsch hat sowohl im Pflichtteil als auch im empfohlenen Teil eine hohe Stellung und führt zu großer Belohnung. Viele Aussagen zu ihrer Stellung wurden vom Prophet Muhammad (s.) und seiner Ahl-ul-Bait (a.) überliefert. Imam Sadiq (a.) sagte: "Der Pilgernde und der Wallfahrende sind Gäste ALLAHs. Wenn sie Ihn bitten, dann gibt Er ihnen, und wenn sie Ihn rufen, dann antwortet Er ihnen, und wenn sie um Fürsprache flehen, gibt Er ihnen Fürsprache, und selbst wenn sie schweigen, beginnt Er dennoch, ihnen zu geben. Und ihnen wird jeder Dirham (den sie für die Pilgerfahrt ausgeben), mit einer Million Dirham vergolten." Prophet Muhammad (s.) ruft gemäß Heiligem Qur'an selbst zur Pilgerfahrt auf (vgl. 22:27). Das Pilgern ist für den religiös Erwachsenen, der imstande dazu ist, einmal im Leben Pflicht. Diese Verpflichtung ist sobald wie möglich zu erfüllen, sobald die Voraussetzungen erfüllt sind, und es ist nicht erlaubt, es grundlos zu verschieben. Als zu erfüllende Voraussetzungen gelten: Verstand bzw. Vernunft; der geistig Behinderte ist nicht verpflichtet. Religiöse Reife Das Imstandesein, das folgende Aspekte beinhaltet: Finanzielles Imstandesein Körperliches Imstandesein Reisesicherheit Zeitliches Imstandesein mit ihren jeweiligen Definitionen und Details. Die Bestrebungs-Pilgerfahrt besteht aus zwei Gruppen von Handlungen. Die erste ist die Wallfahrt [umrah], die idealerweise zuerst zu absolvieren ist und und die zweite ist die Pilgerfahrt selbst.
