Die Terminologie des Wortes Al-'Ibādah in der arabischen Sprache stammt von (den Worten) Al-Khudu' (die Unterwürfigkeit), Al-Inqiyyad (der Gehorsam) und Al-Tathallul (die Demut) ab. Man sagt (in der arabischen Sprache): „Ba'irun mu'abbad" oder „Tariqun mu'abbad" - sprich ein Reittier oder ein Weg, welcher unterwürfig, gefügig und leicht zu führen bzw. zu bestreiten ist. Die Terminologie des Wortes (Al-'Ibâdah) in der Sharî'ah ist die höchste (maximale) Liebe, mit der höchsten (maximalen) Demut und wie es Shaykh Al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah – möge Allāh der Erhabene sich seiner erbarmen – (folgend) definierte:
„Die 'Ibādah ist eine umfassende Bezeichnung für alles was Allāh liebt und woran Er Wohlgefallen hat, von den innerlichen und äußerlichen Aussagen und Taten." (Al-Fatāwā Sammlung)
Somit ist die Bedeutung der 'Ibādah weit umfassend und nicht, wie viele der Menschen es erachten, indem sie es auf Sujûd (die Niederwerfung), Ruku' (die Verbeugung) und Ŝalāh (das Gebet)
beschränken. Und so [aus diesem falschen Verständnis heraus] richten sie ihre 'Ibādah durch andere Arten der 'Ibadāt, an jemand anderes, außer Allāh, während sie es selbst nicht merken, und somit in den Shirk fallen, den Allāh nicht vergibt, wenn man darauf (verbleibend) stirbt.

"Die Frau erwiderte: „Laß mich in Ruhe denn du bist von meinem Unglück nicht betroffen, und du kennst es auch nicht." Einer sagte zu ihr: „Er ist doch der Prophet, Allahs Segen und Friede auf ihm!" Sie suchte dann den Propheten, Allahs Segen und Friede auf ihm, auf und fand dort vor, dass keine Wächter vor seiner Tür standen. Sie sagte zu ihm: „Ich habe dich nicht erkannt!" Der Prophet sagte zu ihr: „Wahrlich, die Geduld als solche gilt es nur bei der ersten Erschütterung zu haben!" (Siehe Hadith Nr.1252)
