A report on the Saudi state news agency said the Rohingya community had been "exposed to many violations of human rights including ethnic cleansing, murder, rape and forced displacement". "King Abdullah … has ordered that assistance of the amount of $50 million be provided to the Rohingya Muslim citizens in Myanmar," said the report which was carried by Saudi media on Sunday. It did not say who was to blame for the abuses. However, Human Rights Watch said on August 1 that the Rohingyas had suffered mass arrests, killings and rapes at the hands of the Myanmar security forces. The minority had borne the brunt of a crackdown after days of arson and machete attacks in June by both Buddhists and Rohingyas in Rakhine state, the monitoring group said. Myanmar, where at least 800,000 Rohingyas are not recognised as one of the country's many ethnic and religious groups, has said it exercised "maximum restraint" in quelling the riots. Last week the Saudi cabinet condemned the violence against Muslims in northwest Myanmar and at a meeting on July 31, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in the kingdom's second city of Jeddah urged members to send Rohingya Muslims aid. For Palestine - The King hosted 2,000 relatives of Palestinian martyrs and prisoners and received letters from the families of 4,700 Palestinians in Israeli jails expressing their happiness over the king's order." With it being the fourth consecutive year King Abdullah is hosting relatives of Palestinian martyrs and prisoners for Haj at his own expense. Saudi Committee for Relief of Palestinian People Distributes Ramadan Food Parcels in Gaza which As many as 300,000 Palestinians are expected to benefit from. For Syria - King Abdullah launched the fundraising campaign for the Syrians, by donating SR20 million to the fund. Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, donated SR10 million. Saudi businessmen sent a convoy of food supplies for Syrians living in Jordan. The 13-truck convoy carried 312 tons of supplies including 10,000 food packets and was distributed by members of the Saudi and Jordanian Red Crescent societies to the refugees. For Sri Lanka - The Kingdom donated 200 metric tons of dates to Sri Lanka 50 metric tons more than last year. With Saudi assistance, we completed a SR 75 million epilepsy and diagnosis hospital in Colombo, the first of its kind in Sri Lanka and various other projects inclusing a neuro-trauma hospital in Colombo which was built with SR 40 million worth of Saudi aid. Following the tsunami disaster in Sri Lanka in 2004, the Kingdom immediately sent eight flights loaded with relief materials and pledged to construct houses for survivors. The Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA), which opened an office following the disaster, donated 15 ambulances and sent a large consignment of medicines and medical apparatus to hospitals in the tsunami affected areas. It also distributed 300,000 sets of school uniforms for children affected by the disaster. A bridge costing SR 440 million and built with Saudi aid was opened by Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Kinniya For the Ummah - Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah called for a meeting to discuss problems facing Muslim countries and how to solve them- including Syria and Myanmar. A Cabinet in Saudi, which was chaired by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah reviewed a number of reports on regional, Arab and international developments, including a report on the situation in occupied Palestinian territories and the continuing acts of killings, violence and carnage in Syria. They denounced Israel's orchestrated practices aimed at changing the geographic and demographic statuesque of Jerusalem and its on-going violations of international law, its continuing settlement program and blockade. They emphasized the importance of unifying international efforts to provide the Palestinian people with protection and end all Israeli atrocities against them. Their Dawah Efforts: More than 3,000 non-Muslim expatriates attended a special "cinema center" at a Ramadan camp which drew a large number of foreigners who took the opportunity to know more about Islam Saleh Al-Yusuf, chairman of the Dawa center in Alkhobar, said that the center's new experiment of inviting non-Muslim expatriates to iftar and then introducing Islam to them by using advanced means of technology had proved a resounding success. "We are keen to demonstrate the true spirit of Islamic brotherhood to the invitees to attract them to the divine religion. The center arranged a number of separate Dawa programs for expatriates of various nationals," he said, adding that about 45,000 expatriates from nine countries had benefited from the Dawa center's iftar program during this Ramadan. The Ramadan camp has so far distributed 34,000 means of Dawa, including books, copies of the Holy Qur'an and its translations, booklets, bags, and CDs among expatriates. Renowned Islamic propagators from various countries have visited the camp and delivered 147 classes. 16 Filipinos converted to Islam at the headquarters of Princess Al-Anood Philanthropic Foundation in Riyadh taking their Shahada testimony by Prince Saud bin Fahd. The King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Qur'an in Madinah distributed around 283,000 different-sized copies of the holy book during the Islamic month of Shaban (June and July) This is in addition to 3,900 copies of parts of the Qur'an known as juz, 1,346 audio copies of different recitations, 35,580 copies of different-language translations and 5,686 books. A report on the Saudi state news agency said the Rohingya community had been "exposed to many violations of human rights including ethnic cleansing, murder, rape and forced displacement". "King Abdullah … has ordered that assistance of the amount of $50 million be provided to the Rohingya Muslim citizens in Myanmar," said the report which was carried by Saudi media on Sunday. It did not say who was to blame for the abuses. However, Human Rights Watch said on August 1 that the Rohingyas had suffered mass arrests, killings and rapes at the hands of the Myanmar security forces. The minority had borne the brunt of a crackdown after days of arson and machete attacks in June by both Buddhists and Rohingyas in Rakhine state, the monitoring group said. Myanmar, where at least 800,000 Rohingyas are not recognised as one of the country's many ethnic and religious groups, has said it exercised "maximum restraint" in quelling the riots. Saudi Arabia sees itself as a guardian of global Muslim interests thanks to being the birthplace of Islam and home to some of the religion's holiest sites in Mecca and Medina. However, Riyadh also regularly draws criticism from campaigners for its lack of democracy. Last week the Saudi cabinet condemned the violence against Muslims in northwest Myanmar and at a meeting on July 31, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in the kingdom's second city of Jeddah urged members to send Rohingya Muslims aid. The OIC is holding a summit in Mecca on Tuesday.
