Nach einer 297-tägigen Wanderung von Graz aus hat der Deutsch-Iraker Thair Abud (50) sein Ziel Mekka erreicht. Der in Österreich lebende Muslim hatte die Fußwallfahrt zum Dank für eine überwundene Krebserkrankung seiner Schwester gelobt. In der heiligen Stadt des Islam kam er nach 8.150 Kilometern durch zwölf Länder am 17. Mai an, wie die Zeitung „Saudi Gazette" (Donnerstag) meldete. Am 25. Juli 2014 war er von seiner Wohnung in Graz aufgebrochen. Der gebürtige Duisburger Abud folgte auf seinem Weg durch Europa alten Pilgerrouten von Moschee zu Moschee. Mit einem Schnitt von vier Kilometern pro Stunde und 14 Kilogramm Gepäck auf dem Rücken lief er sechs Paar Schuhe durch.
