Winter is both a blessing and a curse for your Syrian brothers and sisters;
It is a blessing because the wet weather, thick clouds, chilling cold and muddied lands act a big repellent for the regime pigs, as they do not dare to brave the fog in order to invade the liberated Syrian villages.
The pigs also lose morale in the cold, and their deliberate bombing of civilian towns via artillery and aircraft is lessened significantly.
Winter is a curse as well however, because of the chilling cold, affecting everyone equally, due to the vast majority of homes being damaged by the war, i.e; smashed windows, smashed walls, damaged roofs, it is virtually impossible to keep a home even slightly warm, even with a raging fireplace.
Tent villages are plagued by mud and cold, and strong winds. Their only salvation is a fire at the door of the tent.
Trading, farming, agriculture, all comes to a steep halt. Very little greenhouses are available in Syria, so the flow of cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes and essential vegetables double in price, if available, and become virtually out of reach for the vast majority of Syrians.
Water tanks freeze, and having a shower or making wudu become increasingly dangerous, due to lack of means of heating water except by fire. In homes of over ten people, this becomes virtually impossible.
This is not even really the beginning of winter, it is however the beginning of the rainy season, and the temperature outside is now 9 degrees celcius. In the morning it sits around 4 - 5 degrees celcius, even inside the homes, and with no electricity or A/C, and with no electricity, heaters and A/Cs are completely out of the question, so illness will begin to spread among the people. I have already been struck with a very nasty flu, rendering me absolutely exhausted.
Please do not forget the Syrian people this winter, we have so far gathered around $2500 to purchase winter jackets for women and children in Syria.
