Denn der Satan fliesst im Körper der Kinder von Adam, wie das Blut. Wenn der Mensch isst und trinkt, neigt sich die Seele den Gelüsten, der der Wille wird geschwächt und die Begierde Gottesdienste zu vollrichten sinkt. Das Fasten jedoch bewirkt das Gegenteil. Durch das Fasten entzieht man sich dem Diesseits und seinen Gelüsten und verlangt nach dem Jenseits. Das Fasten motiviert desweiteren um Sympathie für Bedürftigen zu verspüren und lässt jemanden ihren Kummer mitfühlen, wenn der Fastende das Leiden des Hungers und Durstes verspürt. Denn das gesetzgegebene Fasten ist: Die Abstinenz mit der Absicht (Niyyah) der speziellen Sachen, wie Essen, Trinken und Geschlechtsverkehr und weiteren Sachen, die in der Gesetzgebung erwähnt sind. Dazu kommt das sich Enthalten von obszönem Benehmen und sich den Sünden zu Enthalten.
