Jedesmal, wenn die Leute ihn sahen, sprachen sie: "Oh Imam der Muslime! Dies ist noch früh für dich!", doch er antwortete darauf nicht, denn er ließ sich während dem Gedenken Allahs [Dhirk] nicht vom Volk ablenken. Als man eines Tages auf diesem Punkt beharrte, erzählte er folgendes: "Ich besaß einen Scheich, der wahrhaftig eine hohe Persönlichkeit war. Ich lernte von ihm Wissen und als sein Leben dem Ende zukam, das Schiff des Todes sich dem Hafen näherte, befand ich mich neben ihm. Plötzlich riss er die Augen auf und sprach zu mir: >>Oh Sufyan! Du siehst, was sie uns gerade antun, nicht wahr? Seit 50 Jahren nun lade ich das Volk zu Allah ein und weise ihnen den richtigen Weg. Nun jedoch, verscheucht man [Allah] mich mit den Worten: 'Hinweg! Du bist unserer nicht würdig!'<< Wie sehr ich mich auch anstrengte, dass er den Iman behält, so ist er dennoch ohne Iman gestorben. Ich lernte von drei Gelehrten und diente ihnen. Als der eine zum Ende seines Lebens kam, wurde er ein Jude und starb auf diesem Weg. Der andere wurde ein Feueranbeter und der andere ein Christ und beide starben auf diesen Wegen.
