What really got me thinking is the power this man had over the hospital and the workers there. It has been claimed that it was known about his 'activities' amongst the lower level workers ie nurses and porters but not the management. So in other words NHS workers were too afraid and felt powerless to speak out. So where has the freedom of speech gone here? I mean its constantly being shoved down our throats that freedom is a universal value, a human right that all people regardless of their standing or status should exercise. So why not now? Why did people not feel the need to exercise their right to speak out against this abuse especially when it was the most vulnerable involved- children in hospital!? Because they were too scared! My point is that freedom of speech doesn't instil in a person the obligation and responsibility to speak out when they see something wrong regardless of the consequences. Instead they choose to turn a blind eye, as one girl who was a patient in the hospital was told by nurses to "ignore him, he's just like that," when she complained he had sexually assaulted her in the middle of the night. As muslims we do not believe in freedom of speech where you choose to exercise it based on the impact it may have on you, your job and your safety. Instead we carry the concept of enjoining the good and forbidding the munkar, where a person is obliged by Islam to speak out when they see an evil and to ensure the good is upheld. Also eines der schlimmsten Dinge die ich selbst in Tanzania durch machen muss ist das essen. Was immer du bekommst ist von so mieser Qualität das du immer Bauchweh hast und oft auf dem Klo hängst. Es ist halt 3. Welt. Für mich als Europäer sehr schwer. Ich ernähre mich von Kartoffeln und Eiern. Das ist auf Dauer sehr hart. Wenn wir manchmal in Dörfern arbeiten bin ich gerührt von der Gastfreundschaft, da kommen die Muttis dann an und kochen für das Team.
