BEIJING: A court in China's mainly Muslim #Xinjiang region has sentenced a man to six years in prison for "provoking trouble" and growing a beard, a practice discouraged by local authorities, a newspaper reported Sunday. The court in the desert oasis city of Kashgar sentenced the 38-year-old #Uighur to six years, while his wife was given a two-year sentence, according to the China Youth Daily. The man "had started growing his beard in 2010″ while his wife "wore a veil hiding her face and a burqa", the paper said. The couple were found guilty of "picking quarrels and provoking trouble", a vague accusation regularly used in the Chinese judicial system. For more than a year the authorities in Xinjiang have been campaigning against men growing beards – a practice officials associate with extremist ideas. A campaign dubbed "Project Beauty" also encourages women to leave their heads bare and abandon wearing the veil, a relatively widespread practice among the Uighurs – the main Muslim ethnic group in Xinjiang. The Kashgar couple had "received several warnings" before being charged, the newspaper reported, citing local officials. "Since the beginning of the year, a certain number of people breaking the regulation on beards, veils and burqas have been prosecuted and sentenced," officials in Kashgar were quoted as saying by the paper. Kashgar authorities could not be reached for comment Sunday. Rights groups believe Beijing's repression of the Uighurs' culture and religion has fanned tensions in Xinjiang, a resource-rich region that abuts central Asia. Violence increased last year and at least 200 people were killed in a series of bombings and deadly clashes with security forces, blamed by Beijing on "separatists" and "religious extremists". In April last year authorities in Xinjiang's Shaya county offered cash to informants to report on neighbours with excessive facial hair. In August authorities in Karamay city banned people with large beards or Islamic clothing from travelling on public buses. Shocked at the jail sentence rights group said in a statement that such a case would not happen in any other country. "It is unacceptable and absurd. It exposes China's hostile attitude and crisis of governance," said spokesperson for the exile World Uyghur Congress. He added that "If a Chinese person grows a beard, it is a personal fashion he is allowed to choose freely. If a Uighur grows a beard, he is a religious extremist." Shocked at the decision of the court, many took to Twitter to express their views on the jail sentence. Azhar Shah witnessed the horror smash at the junction of Stratford Road and Park Road, in Watford, while driving his taxi just days before Christmas 2012. The 44-year-old was overtaken by a car speeding at about 60 miles per hour through the cross roads. He saw the car crash into another vehicle crossing the junction with such force that the second car twisted around in the air and dropped down in smoke in the carriageway. With disregard for his own life, Azhar ran to help the family - freeing an eight months pregnant woman as smoke continued to escape from the car engine. He said: "A car shot past me going at 50 or 60mph. "I knew it wasn't going to stop. Another car was crossing the junction at that exact time and it smashed into it. The car hit twisted around in the air and dropped, there was smoke. "I jumped out of my car and ran towards it, smoke was coming out the engine. "One woman was eight months pregnant, it was a miracle no one was seriously hurt I was expecting there to be fatalities from the way it was hit." But when the shocked woman was safely in his taxi, sheltered from the cold, Azhar heard her screaming "my baby, where's my baby?" The child was still in the burning car. Knowing the car could explode at any time, Azhar raced back to pull out the baby from the mangled wreckage. Last week, the taxi driver from West Watford, was presented with a certificate from the High Sheriff of Greater London, who makes awards twice a year to citizens who have given outstanding service in helping the police carry out their duties, for his courageous actions and a cheque for £250. The dad-of-four said it was an honour to be recognised, but that it was human nature and instinct to help. Azhar said: "If I had thought about it, I would have thought that car could blow at any time - I need to get away from here myself. But I didn't, I just saw it was something serious and ran to help - it's human nature I guess. I think most people would have that instinct. I was just caught up in that moment. "I don't think I did anything amazing, but it's good to think I made a difference. There was a reason why I was there at that exact moment." The speeding car driver was taken to court by the police and Azhar's call to the emergency services, which had recorded a lot of what he did to help that night, was played to the judge. The judge then recommended Azhar for the award. Azhar continued: "My children are very proud of me, my wife is proud of me, although she was a bit scared something serious could have happened to me. But the people in the car needed help, so I helped." Eine Nacht, in der wie uns von unseren Dunja-Angelegenheiten zurückgezogen haben und uns dem Gedenken Allahs gewidmet haben, wobei das Allah Gedenken auf ganz unterschiedliche Weise in unserem Programm umgesetzt wurde. Nach dem gemeinsamen Isha-Gebet ging es los. Unser ehrenwerter Bruder Jasir (Vorsitzender des Tauhid e.V.) gab uns eine wunderschöne Einführung, indem er einen Vortrag mit dem Titel „Die Diener des Allererbarmers" hielt. Ausgehend von den Versen 64-74 der Sura al-Furqan zeigte uns Bruder Jasir auf, wer die Diener des Allerbarmers sind, d.h. welche Eigenschaften sie haben und welche rechtschaffenen Handlungen sie vollbringen. Der Vortrag regte einen sehr dazu an darüber nachzudenken, wo man selber gerade steht und motivierte einen umso mehr dazu, sich die Eigenschaften und Handlungen dieser besonderen Menschen zu Eigen zu machen. JazaakAllahuchairan Bruder Jasir. Möge Allah uns zu den Dienern des Allererbarmers gehören lassen! Nach diesem sehr interessanten Vortrag stand schon der erste Workshop mit dem Thema „Tazkijja-Charakterreinigung" auf dem Programm. Hierbei waren alle Anwesenden gefragt sich aktiv am Geschehen zu beteiligen. Es wurden kleine Gruppen von 3-5 Personen gebildet und Leitfragen verteilt, um sich mit den schlechten Charakterzügen „Eingebildetsein, Hochmut, Zorn und Neid" auseinanderzusetzen. Nachdem die Gruppen ca. 20 min Zeit hatten sich mit ihrem Thema zu beschäftigen, stellte jeweils eine Person jeder Gruppe den anderen Gruppen ihre Ergebnisse vor. Es war sehr erfreulich zu sehen, dass sich wirklich alle Geschwister aktiv an dem Workshop beteiligt haben und sich jeder mit seinen Ideen zu den verschieden Themen eingebracht hat. Bruder Amien (Tauhid e.V.), der diesen Workshop leitete, war dementsprechend begeistert über die Ergebnisse der Gruppen und konnte in seiner anschließenden zusammenfassenden Beantwortung der Leitfragen meist nur das bereits genannte wiederholen und sich den tollen Ideen und Beiträgen der Teilnehmer anschließen. Wir freuen uns schon auf den nächsten Workshop zum Thema Tazkijja. JazaakAllahuchairan Bruder Amien. Möge Allah es uns ermöglichen uns von den schlechten Charaktereigenschaften zu befreien! Als nächstes gab es einen Vortrag von unserem ehrenwerten Bruder Mohamed Hajjaj (u.a. stellvertr. Vors. des Teiba-Kulturzentrums) mit dem Titel „Ziele erreichen – aber wie?". In diesem Vortrag lernten wir unter anderem, dass es zum einen essentiell ist sich Ziele zu setzen und zum anderen, dass es effektive Wege gibt diese Ziele zu erreichen. Uns wurde durch diesen Vortrag ebenfalls bewusst, dass diese Thematik besonders auch in der islamischen Arbeit stark vernachlässigt wird und sich die Wenigsten darüber Gedanken machen, wie sie ihre gesetzten Ziele effektiv erreichen. Möge Allah den Bruder Mohamed Hajjaj reichlich für seinen lehrreichen Beitrag zu unserer Itikafnacht belohnen und möge Allah Taala unser Wissen mehren auf dass wir letztendlich das Ziel unserer Ziele, nämlich „das Wohlgefallen Allahs", erreichen. Mitternacht war schon fast erreicht und es wurde Zeit für einen „kleinen Snack" :) . In geschwisterlicher Gemeinschaft saßen wir gemeinsam in der Cafeteria der Seituna-Moschee und genossen die „Spezial-Schawarma" mit der uns die Geschwister der Seituna-Moschee beglückten. An dieser Stelle nochmals einen Herzlichen Dank an die Geschwister der Seituna-Moschee für die leckere Mahlzeit und natürlich auch besonders dafür, dass sie uns ihre Räumlichkeiten zur Durchführung unserer Itikafnacht zur Verfügung gestellt haben. Jazaakumullahuchairan !! Möge Allah von euch annehmen! Danach stand der nächste Workshop auf dem Programm. Unser ehrenwerter Bruder Sami (u.a.Tauhid e.V.) der sonst eher für seine wunderschönen islamischen Gedichte bekannt ist, stellte uns seinen Workshop mit dem Thema „Umgang mit Meinungsverschiedenheiten" vor. Schon vor Beginn des Workshops war den meisten von uns klar, warum gerade dieses Thema gewählt worden ist, nämlich weil besonders wir Muslime ein auffälliges Defizit in diesem Bereich aufweisen, welches oft zu Spaltungen in unseren Reihen führt. Auch in diesem Workshop wurden wir wieder in Gruppen aufgeteilt, wobei dieser Workshop so konzipiert war, dass jede Gruppe eine bestimmte Meinung zugewiesen bekam, die sie vor der anderen Gruppe, die jeweils eine entgegengesetzte Meinung hatte, vertreten musste. Dadurch, dass man sich hierbei meist in eine Meinung hineinversetzen musste, die man in Wirklichkeit gar nicht vertritt, konnte man sich in diesem Workshop darin üben, seinen gegenüber besser zu verstehen und dadurch ein gewisses Verständnis für die andere Meinung aufbauen. Als Themen für unsere Diskussionen wurde zum einen das Thema „Massentierhaltung - Ist das halal?" und zum anderen das Thema „Impfen- ja oder nein" vorgegeben. In unseren Diskussionen war es sehr schön zu sehen, dass obwohl wir sehr unterschiedliche Ausgangsmeinungen hatten, am Ende immer einen Kompromiss finden konnten mit dem beide Seiten zufrieden waren. Es war ein sehr lehrreicher Workshop aus dem jeder der Anwesenden sicherlich einiges mitnehmen konnte! JazaakAllahuchairan Bruder Sami. Möge Allah uns vor der Spaltung bewahren, uns rechtleiten und es uns ermöglichen auf die beste Art und Weise mit Meinungsverschiedenheiten umzugehen. Der krönende Abschluss unserer gesegneten Nacht war unser Stehen im Nachtgebet. Mitten in der Nacht standen wir im Gebet vor Allah Taala, hörten aufmerksam der wundervollen Rezitation des Imams zu, in der Hoffnung, dass sich unsere Herzen erweichen, wir uns erinnern lassen durch die gesegneten Worte Allahs und mit dem Ziel Allahs Vergebung und sein Wohlgefallen zu erreichen. Wir würden uns sehr darüber freuen, wenn ihr bei unserer nächsten Itikafnacht oder einer anderen Veranstaltung auch dabei seid! Bis demnächst inshaAllah :).
