Almost 1,000 migrants have been rescued from a cargo ship found adrift for over a week in Greek waters. It's amazing how much money is spent on entertainment and fireworks in just a few minutes, yet there seems to be a reluctance to spend money on those desperate in need of financial aid. Silvester ist ursprünglich ein Heiligengedenktag - an den am 31.12.335 n.Chr. verstorbenen Papst Silvester. Bis zum Jahr 1582 n. Chr. wurde der letzte Tag des Jahres in Europa am 24.12. begangen. Seit der Gregorianischen Kalenderreform im besagten Jahr wurde der letzte Tag des Jahres auf den 31.12. gelegt. Die Feuer-Feste am Jahresende, durch die böse Geister vertrieben werden sollen, haben heidnisch-germanische Wurzeln. Der Islam verbietet zwar nicht das Feiern (natürlich ohne Alkohol oder andere Drogen) und Fröhlichsein.
